Season 18 Review) Apex Legends)

Now that Season 18 of Apex Legends is finally finished, we can long look at some of the best moments during 'the worst season ever'. Upon first glance, back in August it appeared to be no different from the last, besides Kings Canyon coming back into rotation and being the first ever season where World's Edge wasn't featured. At one point the three playable maps were Broken Moon, Kings Canyon, and Olympus, but that didn't last long, which wasn't much of a surprise considering how many players and streamers were already complaining about Broken Moon being third part central. OG World's Edge was later was brought back with some spooky seasonal aspects along with flying rev skulls that players immediately found a way to extort, by having almost any legend be able to place their 'q' on top of it, and have it chase down enemies for even more damage.

Some small changes were also made to the rank point system and skill-based matchmaking in general, but not in a severe enough way to change people's play style. So yes, ratting is still a means to victory. The most notable circumstance that comes to mind during season 18 that really proves asshole-rat-cheaters still exist, is players finding a way under the Olympus map where they would sit and walk with the closing circle and eventually win for free, or maybe second? I don't know. It seems the average apex player is set on destruction no matter the cost.

With the rework of Revenant as the main theme for season 18, Rev mains will most likely have either loved or hated this season. The rework included a new ultimate and tactical as well as a complete restyling of his 'original' skin. I have to say the Rev re-work seems to be a success, I feel I have personally played and seen more players choose Revenant far more this season, even as time passed Revenant is still consistently picked. Which brings to question other legends being reworked in the future, and if it's a good idea or not. Could you imagine if they screwed up your main? Like what's happening to Bang and Cat.

This is an older chart I found around the time I thought to check the pick rate to see how things were going for Rev. As you can see there was a huge spike in August, and now, on October 31st, only 2 hours from season 19 launch, Revenant has a pick rate of 7% making him the 5th most selected legend.

Like taking a baby's bottle, the Nemesis was added to the replicator just one season after its introduction and the R99 went back to the ground, but the most important weapon change has to either be the care package Prowler with its select fire switch, giving the option between normal round burst or fully auto, or, the "New and improved" Charge rifle, which is terrible. Now in the final weeks of the season we have really heard the community want something besides burst weapon meta ever since the hemlock came back as a dominate choice.

For all you mixtape maniacs out there like myself, you might be feeling unsure about the future of the game mode based on the changes that took place during season 18, like the addition of new maps or old maps with new modes, or maybe you just want arenas back. Some players on reddit feel like it's a little too much World's Edge, with both team deathmatch and gun run played in the exact same parameters. Regardless, whatever comes next will surely be fun in its own way, let's not forget the Christmas train mode or the shadow runner Halloween thing.

Overall, I would say season 18 was a success. Of course, not all the problems were solved, and new ones were found, but the player base is still strong and growing. I wanted to have more with a more professional finish, but the season is over and it's time to focus on season 19.  I love this little toxic community. <3
